Import-export operations have resumed at the Benapole land port following an eight-day suspension for the Sharadiya Durga Puja festival.
Passenger movement between Bangladesh and India remained unaffected throughout the closure, with travellers carrying valid passports continuing to cross the international border without disruption.
Trade operations officially restarted at 9am on Saturday. During the initial hour of operation between 9am and 10am, 35 cargo trucks entered Bangladesh from India, while 11 trucks departed Bangladesh for India.
Normally, the port handles more than 500 truckloads of imports from India and approximately 200 truckloads of exports destined for India on a daily basis.
Badruzzaman Boni, general secretary of the Benapole C&F Staff Association, confirmed that import-export activities were halted for eight days due to public holidays associated with Durga Puja.
Ruhul Amin, acting director of Benapole Port, also verified that trade had been suspended during the major Hindu religious festival and noted that all regular trade activities are now fully back underway.
Why it matters
The resumption of operations at Benapole restores critical cross-border trade flow between Bangladesh and India.
