Bank Asia PLC and Asia Insurance PLC have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide insurance coverage for buyers availing two‑wheeler loan facilities, making motorcycle purchases more convenient and accessible for prospective buyers in Bangladesh.
The partnership, sealed at Rupayan Trade Centre on Bangla Motor in Dhaka, will also encompass joint marketing initiatives, customer engagement programs and promotional activities to enhance customer awareness and facilitate access to financial and insurance services. The MoU underscores the growing collaboration between the banking and insurance sectors to support consumer financing.
Signatories included Md Zahed Chowdhury, executive vice president & head of assets, retail banking division of Bank Asia, and Md Imam Shaheen, chief executive officer & managing director of Asia Insurance. The agreement aims to give motorcycle buyers a one‑stop solution that combines convenient financing with suitable insurance coverage for their vehicles.
Industry analysts view the pact as a response to rising demand for affordable two‑wheeler ownership in Bangladesh, where motorcycles are a popular mode of transport. The combined expertise of Bank Asia and Asia Insurance is expected to streamline the loan‑insurance process, reducing paperwork and lowering costs for consumers.
The collaboration also aligns with broader economic development goals under Bangladesh’s push to increase financial inclusion. By linking loan facilities with tailored insurance products, the partnership supports the government’s vision of expanding access to credit and protecting assets of ordinary citizens.
Observers note that such public‑private collaborations are becoming a cornerstone of the country’s trade and development strategy, fostering a more resilient financial ecosystem. The initiative is likely to be watched by other lenders and insurers considering similar integrated offerings.
The MoU marks a concrete step forward for the banking sector’s outreach in the retail segment, and its success could pave the way for comparable arrangements in other vehicle categories or consumer durables. Stakeholders are optimistic that the partnership will set a benchmark for future cooperative ventures in Bangladesh’s financial landscape.
