Dhaka, 21 September 2026 – Bangladesh’s newly appointed Consul General in Kunming, Shahanaz Akhter Ranu, met with Yang Shaocheng, Director General of the Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, at the Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office today to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
In a joint press release, the two officials said Bangladesh is keen to broaden collaboration with China’s Yunnan Province across education, cultural exchange, renewable energy projects and other economic sectors.
The meeting highlighted that bilateral trade between Yunnan Province and Bangladesh surpassed 1.3 billion yuan in the previous year, underscoring the growing commercial linkages between the two regions.
Consul General Ranu emphasized the importance of deepening people‑to‑people connectivity and exploring new opportunities in higher education exchanges, joint cultural festivals, and renewable‑energy initiatives such as solar and wind projects.
Yang Shaocheng welcomed the new Consul General and reiterated Yunnan’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s development goals, noting the province’s capacity to supply renewable‑energy technology and agricultural inputs.
The two sides also discussed practical matters, including the relocation of the Bangladesh Consulate General’s chancery in Kunming to a designated consular jurisdiction, aiming to improve consular services for Bangladeshi nationals.
"We are satisfied with the progress of relations and look forward to deeper engagement in education and renewable energy," Ranu said during the meeting.
Yang added, "Our trade has already exceeded 1.3 billion yuan, and we are confident that further cooperation will bring mutual benefits for both peoples."
Both parties agreed to continue working together to strengthen mutual cooperation, enhance trade flows, and expand cultural and educational ties between Bangladesh and Yunnan Province.
