The government has instructed all officials and employees working at the Secretariat to keep their identity cards visible at all times while entering and staying inside the premises to strengthen security. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the directive on Tuesday, saying displaying identity cards was essential to reinforce security, control access and maintain overall discipline at the Secretariat. It noted that different categories of visitors, including those attending meetings and entering through one-time passwords (OTPs), also visit the Secretariat, where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman now works every day. The latest instruction follows an earlier order on October 27 to tighten control over visitors' entry into the Secretariat, shifting entry time from noon to 2pm and limiting general visitors to one OTP per week. The directive aims to improve monitoring and supervision of access to the prime minister's office and ensure internal security.
Why it matters
The directive strengthens internal security at the prime minister's office, reflecting ongoing efforts to protect government facilities in Bangladesh.
