The body of Bangladeshi worker Md Shahed Ahmed, who was killed in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will arrive in Bangladesh on Friday.
The body is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:35am on a US-Bangla Airlines flight, according to a statement from the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh.
The statement said flight BS-362 will depart King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah for Dhaka at 11:10pm Riyadh time on Thursday, arriving in Dhaka at 8:35am the following day.
Shahed was killed in a Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10. His father is Md Rafiqul Islam, and his home village is Madla in Shajahanpur upazila of Bogra.
He worked for Saudi Arabia-based Sa’ad Al Eisa Contracting Company at its Jeddah project. After spending a month on leave with his family, Shahed returned to Saudi Arabia on October 9 to resume work, leaving behind his wife and two children. The 36-year-old expatriate worker was killed while waiting for a transit connection at the airport.
Two Bangladeshis, including Shahed, were killed and at least 27 others injured in the attack. Most of the victims were waiting for connecting flights, either returning to their workplaces after visiting Bangladesh or travelling to perform Umrah.
Meanwhile, Shahed’s outstanding salary, allowances and service benefits, totalling 27,395.62 Saudi riyals (about Tk900,000), have been deposited into the Bangladesh Embassy’s account in Riyadh.
The money will be handed over to his family soon through the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board, the embassy said.
Why it matters
The repatriation of the deceased worker and the transfer of his service benefits highlight the vital consular and welfare support provided by diplomatic missions to expatriate families.
