The 10th Bangladesh‑United States Land Forces Talks concluded on Tuesday at the Dhaka Cantonment, marking a high‑level defence dialogue between the two armies.
The two‑day meeting, held on Monday and Tuesday, brought together senior officers from the Bangladesh Army and the United States Army, according to the Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The U.S. delegation was headed by Major General Giles J.S. Cornelia, Deputy Commanding General for Strategy and Plans, United States Army Pacific, who paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff General Waker‑Uz‑Zaman at Army Headquarters on Monday.
Bangladesh’s side was led by Brigadier General Syed Ashiqur Rahman, director of the Military Training Directorate, who outlined Bangladesh’s priorities for the partnership.
Talks focused on expanding joint training programmes, exchanging advanced military technology and equipment, and improving coordinated responses to natural and man‑made disasters.
Both parties stressed the importance of enhancing strategic preparedness and interoperability, noting recent regional challenges such as cyclones and flood events.
The delegations agreed to institutionalise mechanisms for regular information sharing and to explore future joint exercises, aiming to bolster Bangladesh’s defence capabilities.
Observers said the dialogue reflects the growing security cooperation between Dhaka and Washington and could serve as a model for other bilateral defence engagements in South Asia.
