Bangladesh and Turkiye have discussed the possible participation of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in COP31, which is scheduled to be hosted by Turkiye in Antalya.
The discussion took place when State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.
During the meeting, the two officials exchanged views on the upcoming climate summit and the prime minister's prospective participation. However, the press release noted that no final decision had been reached on the matter.
In addition to climate cooperation, the discussions covered broader bilateral ties, including high-level visits, defence cooperation, renewable and green energy, and investment opportunities for Turkish companies operating in Bangladesh.
State Minister Kobir also extended an invitation to Turkiye to participate in an international sports conference that Bangladesh plans to host in early 2027.
Concluding their talks, both sides reiterated their mutual commitment to further strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors of shared interest.
