Bangladesh and Turkey have discussed the possible participation of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in COP31, the United Nations climate summit to be held in Antalya, Turkey.
The discussion took place when State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on 25 September, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.
During the meeting the two officials exchanged views on the upcoming climate summit and the Prime Minister’s potential involvement, although no final decision was announced.
The dialogue also covered a range of broader issues, including high‑level visits, defence cooperation, renewable and green energy projects, and investment opportunities for Turkish companies in Bangladesh.
Kobir extended an invitation to Turkey to take part in an international sports conference that Bangladesh plans to host in early 2027, signalling further avenues for bilateral engagement.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, emphasizing the strategic importance of climate action and economic partnership.
COP31, scheduled for 2027 in Antalya, is a key platform for Bangladesh to showcase its climate mitigation efforts and to attract international support.
Further discussions will determine whether Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the summit, pending formal arrangements between the two governments.
