Bangladesh and Lithuania pledged to strengthen bilateral relations during the second Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Dhaka on 8 October 2026.

The meeting was led by Ambassador Dr. M. Nazrul Islam, Secretary for Bilateral (East & West) of Bangladesh, and Mr. Vidmantas Verbickas, Vice‑Minister for Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, each heading their respective delegations.

At the outset, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Foreign Office Consultation, formalising a framework for regular dialogue and cooperation.

Delegates reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral ties, attaching high priority to recalibrating and expanding relations across trade, investment, expatriate welfare and information technology.

Both sides stressed the need to deepen political cohesion and proposed organising reciprocal high‑level visits, including future foreign‑ministerial exchanges.

The two countries also agreed to commemorate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027 with events that will highlight achievements and further cement friendship.

The consultations underscore Bangladesh’s broader diplomatic outreach in Europe and set the stage for enhanced economic and cultural cooperation with Lithuania.
