Dhaka – Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Humaiun Kobir, met with Algeria’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, in Algiers on 22 October 2026 to discuss bilateral, regional and multilateral issues.

The two ministers covered a wide agenda that included cooperation in energy, fertilizers, agriculture, textiles, trade, commerce, education and people‑to‑people contacts.

During the talks the State Minister announced satisfaction with the signing of a memorandum of understanding on hydrocarbons, which will allow Bangladesh to import LNG, LPG and other petroleum products from Algeria under a government‑to‑government mechanism.

The MoU also envisages joint development of refineries, LNG infrastructure and the exploration of coal and gas fields within Bangladesh, expanding the country’s energy portfolio.

Algeria’s Petroleum Institute expressed interest in providing training and knowledge‑sharing programmes for Bangladeshi engineers and technicians, while Algerian officials signalled willingness to cooperate in fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, leather and textiles, seeking Bangladesh’s expertise in reviving its textile sector.

Both sides underscored the importance of regular Foreign Office Consultations, agreeing that the next round of talks will be held in Dhaka, and highlighted plans for high‑level visits to further strengthen bilateral relations.
