OBITUARY

M.A. Rouf JP, founder Cheif Advisor of Diplomats Publication passed away in heart attack at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Inna lillahi wa Inna elahi rajiun.

He was a Founder Chairman of Britania Property’s Ltd and former Chairman of MTB Bank. Mr. Rouf was born in 1948 and as a Textile Engineer arrived from Bangladesh to Scotland in 1971 for higher education and studied in Dundee college of Technology. Mr. Rouf was a very successful businessman including Director of a Property Development Company which received the Civic Trust Award for the best Architectural designed building in the heart of the City Dundee, Scotland. Mr. Rouf received the prestigious Who’s Who Bangladesh award for his contribution and achievement in Business sector in 2018. Mr. Rouf was serving as the elected Regional President for the British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce in the UK for Scotland for the last 16 years. He was also appointed as a Delegate for the Department of British Trade Mission of Bangladesh. Mr. Rouf is a lifetime member of the University of St. Andrews, Mr. Rouf is also a member of St. Andrews Golf club, which is the 2nd oldest Golf club in the world and also a member of Army Golf Club Dhaka. He holds the post of Honorary Vice Chairman of St. Andrews University Union Debating Society for the last 17 years which is the oldest debating society in the world. He is also the President of St. Andrews University Cricket Club. Mr. Rouf have established a school named Amirjan High School & College in Dumni, Khilkhet, Dhaka which was named after his mother. Currently the school and college have 2300 students and 106 teachers. He used to live in Scotland. He was a great personality and a very good friend of Bangladesh and Scotland. He will remain our memory for very long time.

SET-TOP BOX HANDOVER CEREMONY

The Diplomats team presented ‘Set-Top Box’ to all the Missions abroad with the aim of enabling the viewers to watch Bangla TV channels abroad, including BTV and BTV World. The initiative was taken to promote Bangladesh’s art, culture and various development activities. The set-top boxes is expected to enable showcasing Bangladesh in nook and corners of the world. Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen and Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud collaboratively participated in the event and welcomed Diplomat’s initiative to hand over the set-top boxes.

 

The joint program was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, media representatives, Editor Shahed Akhtar, Executive Editor Nazinur Rahim, Assistant Editor Marzana Safat, Advisor Abdur Rouf JP, Advisor Kawsar Dewan and representatives of Diplomats Magazine. After the demonstration of the set-top box and its functions, a short question answer round took place where both of the Ministers addressed the queries of the journalists. The event was widely covered by the print media and television channels.

MOU Signed Between BGCCI & Diplomats Magazine

The Diplomats Magazine recently signed an MOU with Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BGCCI) for promoting activities of their respective organization. The MOU would enable BGCCI’s esteemed members to receive the electronic copy of the Diplomats Magazines on a regular basis. Moreover, BGCCI will also promote its activities through the Diplomats Magazine.  The MOU was signed by Ambassador Shahed Akhtar, ndc, on behalf of BGCCI and Nazinur Rahim, Executive Editor on behalf of Diplomats Magazine.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Humayun Kabir, Assistant Executive Director & Secretary of BGCCI, Famira Nahin, Rakib Hasan, Shaiful Islam, Ayesha Jahan from BGCCI and on behalf of Diplomats Magazine Associate Editor Sheikh Mohammad Fauzul Mubin, Advisor Aminur Rahman and Khandaker Mohiuddin, Creative Editor Lutfun Nahar Taposhi and  Coordinator Sheikh Nazia Hasan.

Diplomats Magazine recognizes Bangla Academy Chairman Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan as an Iconic Literary figure of Bangladesh. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2001, Ekushey Padak in 2009 and Independence Day Award in 2017 and “Who’s Who Bangladesh’’ award in 2020. He was the regular Contributor of Diplomats Magazine. Diplomats joins in expressing its heartfelt condolences on passing of a learned personality. Born in December 29, 1940 in Manikganj’s Charigram area, Shamsuzzaman Khan completed his masters from Dhaka University in 1963.He started his career as a teacher and worked as a professor at Haraganga College in Munshiganj, Jagannath College in Dhaka, Mymensingh Agricultural University and National University.

Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, was 81 and admitted in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University hospital for various ailments. Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan is well known for constructing a series on Bangladesh folk culture of all the Districts of Bangladesh (64 districts in 64 volumes). He also edited collections of folklore series in 114 volumes. His works include Folklore Charcha, Bangabandhur Rashtrachinta O Bartaman Bangladesh, Bangabandhur Sangey Alap O Anyanya Prasanga, Muktabuddhi, Dharmanirapekshata O Samakal, Bangarashtrer Galpasamagra, Kishore Rachanasamagra, Bangladesher Utsab and others. Since June 2020, he served Bangla Academy as its president. He had previously served as Director General of Bangla Academy, He was also the DG of Bangladesh National Museum and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Diplomats team expresses their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayers for the salvation of the soul.

Expression of Solidarity with the People Of Palestine From Diplomats Magazine

7 members Diplomats Magazine team lead by Editor Shahed Akhtar visited the Palestinian Ambassador at his office. The Diplomats team condemns the recent brutal use of forces by the Israeli Authority on the Palestinians people. The horrific attack and violence unleashed by the occupying Israeli forces on the innocent devotees and civilians in Occupied Palestine territories including East Jerusalem, as well as the evictions of Palestinians from their ancestral land. Diplomat’s team views this as flagrant violations of international law and human rights.

The publication expresses its heartfelt condolences for the loss of Palestinians’ lives and destruction of properties. The Diplomats team strongly denounced all illegal acts of Israeli occupation forces and the Bangladesh’s unflinching support in realizing the inalienable rights of the brotherly people of Palestine for an independent homeland, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In conclusion, Diplomats Team supports the Palestinian people, and stands firmly with them in realizing their legitimate rights. The Diplomats team also recognizes the excellent work of the Ambassador of Palestine in promoting goodwill and friendship with the people and government of Bangladesh.
